Whit, I am with you. I do worry about guys getting better after they leave and what that says about Norv and AJ's methods. If we want to avoid hearing about our ex players we need to win today

I disagree with all the talking heads that say we have let too many good players go. Only one in my opinion should we have paid and played more and that one is Kassim Osgood.

Getting ready to leave for the city. Latest from Acee:
Antonio Gates walking pretty good as Chargers got ready to leave for walk-through. It's a safe bet he plays. He's never been stopped before.

More from yours truly:

This week is exactly like the game against the Giants last year. Our record is worse, but it's at the almost identical time in November and our very survival depends on a win.

CCrab
I don't think VJ should get what he wanted originally. However, we don't have anyone nearly as good. If he walks, who is taking his place? Unless we get a defender with the money saved. We are eighth from the bottom in money spent in this uncapped year. I am not saying to return to the senseless spending of the Wiley/Boston period, but is there a reason for our thriftiness?

Ross - The photo of Jerry is quite appropriate - many a hair turned white waiting for a Championship in SF. Unfortunately, the same continues for Charger fans.

I'll just focus on one of your points - VJ - the way he burned himself and the team with his jackass holdout, I got the sense that he did not want to play in SD anymore. I could be wrong and it will be interesting to see how this story plays out. Who knows, AJ could offer him a long-term deal. Anything is possible after Moss went back to Minny. Let's hope we win this week (and KC loses) to keep the drama going...

I still think he's more reliable than Legedu. Also, the frailty of Floyd and Naanee might force AJ to rethink his stance on Jackson.

From the Male Sack of the U-T:

How can AJ let VJ go at the end of the season without getting any compensation for him? Does he plan to franchise tag him then trade him? Why would you trade him or let him go given Floyd's and Nanee's injuries? You hear nothing but good things from coaches and players about VJ. The guy made mistakes, he's been out of trouble since and he deserves another chance. The Chargers will not be the same offensevly without him. IMO letting VJ go will be the biggest mistake AJ will ever make as GM.

Wow. I'll have to ponder that for a while, but you might ultimately be right in that ranking of mistakes ... I wrote in the spring they should sign him to a long-term deal. I consider him one of the top 5 WR in the league ... I've gone into detail again and again why AJ has decided to move on without VJ, and it has to do with the amount of money VJ wants and the legal issues he's had.

Ross, I'd sit Gates out until after the bye week. He's just gonna keep getting more injuries if they don't. I'm more concerned about his future with the team than this season.
